Installation Process
Every installation begins with a thorough assessment of the home. We examine the pitch of the roof, existing drainage issues, and areas where water runoff is most significant. We also check for signs of wood rot or fascia board damage, which must be addressed before new gutters can be securely installed. Once we’ve evaluated the property, we measure the roofline and plan the downspout locations to ensure proper water flow and minimal overflow during heavy rain.
The choice of materials impacts both durability and aesthetics. Aluminum is the most popular due to its affordability, resistance to rust, and color variety. For upscale homes, copper offers a striking look and long-lasting performance. Seamless gutters, formed on-site from a single coil of metal, are our go-to choice. They reduce the chance of leaks and provide a cleaner appearance compared to sectional systems.
If we’re replacing an existing gutter system, we carefully remove the old gutters and downspouts, taking care not to damage the fascia or soffits. Any wood rot or damage is repaired at this stage.
We then install hidden hangers or brackets, spaced approximately every two feet to support the weight of the gutter during heavy rain. Precision is key here — gutters must be installed with a subtle slope (typically 1/4 inch for every 10 feet) toward the downspouts to ensure efficient drainage. Even a small miscalculation can result in standing water or overflow.
Using a portable gutter machine, we form seamless gutters to match the exact measurements of each roofline. These custom-formed sections are lifted into place and secured onto the hangers. Corners are sealed with waterproof caulking or rivets, depending on the material.
Downspouts are installed next, directing water down from the gutters to a safe drainage area. We often add extensions or splash blocks to channel the water away from the home’s foundation. Proper positioning is essential — poor placement can undermine the whole system.
After installation, we conduct a water test using a hose to ensure everything flows correctly and no leaks are present. We also inspect all fasteners and sealants to confirm long-term durability.
Gutter installation is more than just attaching metal to your home — it’s a strategic, detailed process that protects one of your biggest investments. When done right, it quietly performs year after year. If you’re unsure about tackling gutter installation yourself, trust an experienced professional to do it right the first time. Your home will thank you when the rain comes.
